This program introduces students to important municipal and county institutions that govern, protect, and educate Hillsborough.
Students will tour civic sites and meet town leaders for a fun and engaging learning experience. Site visits may include the Hillsborough Police Department, Orange County Historical Museum, a mock trial at the Orange County Courthouse, Orange Rural Fire Department, or many other sites.
Ages: Kindergarten – 3rd grades
Students will get a hands-on, half-day tour of Hillsborough historic sites. Select four of the following experiences and we’ll customize a field trip for your group: women’s history at the Burwell School, life on the Dickson Farm, 19th century education at the Hughes Academy, standards of measurement at the Orange County Historical Museum, and Occaneechi life and tools with Tribal Chief John Blackfeather Jeffries.
A walking tour of downtown Hillsborough may also be included in lieu of one of the four sites.
Ages: 2nd grade – 8th grade
The Historic Hillsborough Tour offers an engaging field trip experience, where students will visit around 12 key sites around town to learn about their historical significance. As they walk through Hillsborough, students will encounter guides stationed at 4 or 5 of the sites, ready to provide in-depth knowledge. For the sites without a guide, we will provide informational materials to ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of each location. This tour provides a dynamic and educational way to explore the rich history of the town.
Ages: 2nd grade – 8th grade
