Attention Outlander fans, Scottish fanatics, and Hillsborough lovers! The wait is over and tickets are on sale now for the September 2026 Outlandish Hillsborough Scottish Festival. We’re excited to welcome you back for another full day of Scottish culture with live music, bagpipes, traditional dancing, and interactive activities for all ages. One major update, ALL activities will be on the grounds of Ayr Mount including Hillsborough’s own Craigh Na Dun, fairy dancers, broadsword lessons, and (of course) of whiskey tasting table.
We have a lot of returning fan favorites as well as new vendors, activites, and musicians who we know will make this year’s festival unforgettable. Where do I go to check in?

Attendees can check in at both locations; Ayr Mount and the Alexander Dickson House (Hillsborough Visitor Center) Ayr Mount Address: 376 St Mary's Rd Dickson House: 150 E King

Can I purchase tickets at the gate?

Absolutely! While we do encourage pre-purchase of tickets online, there will be a QR code at each check-in desk if you would rather pay at the door. **There will be no cash sales the day-of event. If you aren't able to pay by credit card, please contact our staff Kelly@historichillsborough.org.

What is allowed on the grounds?

Outlandish is an all-day affair! Strollers, wagons, picnic blankets, and folding chairs are encouraged. Outside food and drink is allowed at each location, with a few exceptions. 1. No glass containers 2. You must discard all waste appropriately 3. No outside alcohol

Are dogs allowed to attend?

We love our furry family members and welcome them to enjoy the day of fun. Pets are not allowed inside the Ayr Mount or Dickson House. Please note that all dogs must be kept on a leash. If attending a walking tour, dogs must be kept on the sidewalks at all times and walk near the back of the group.

Refund Policy

The Outlandish Hillsborough Scottish Festival will be held rain or shine. Cancellations for general admission or walking tours made 7 days in advance qualify for a refund minus Eventbrite fees. Attendees can transfer tickets to another person any time prior to check-in.

Where do I park?

There is FREE parking throughout downtown Hillsborough and Ayr Mount. Thanks to Hillsborough Capital Ford Dealership, we are able to offer a free shuttle service between the Dickson House and Ayr Mount. Shuttle stops will be clearly marked with signage near the check in tables at each location.

Are the activities accessible to all?

Both locations are ADA compliant, ensuring accessibility for all individuals. While there is some uneven terrain, public restrooms at each site are fully accessible.

What's the Wee Bairns area?

The Wee Bairns area (or Kids Space) will feature interactive activities including Scottish colonial era games hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution, a tricorn hat making activity hosted by the Orange County Historical Museum, and Scottish culture and heritage crafts like cotton ball sheep and tartan weaving hosted by Scotland in the Classroom. Don't miss out on taking a selfie with the kilt-wearing and bagpipe-playing unicorn (the national animal of Scotland!)

A FREE shuttle service will be provided during the Outlandish Hillsborough Scottish Festival. Shuttle Stops are located near the check in tables of Ayr Mount and the Alexander Dickson House. To view Free parking, please see our community guide. Limited parking available at Ayr Mount.
